Thyroid Support Formula

The thyroid gland controls the metabolic rate. If this falls too low, typical symptoms may be fatigue, feels cold, weight gain, hair loss, poor memory or anxiety or depression. Poor thyroid function is common after 40 and more prevalent in women.

A normal thyroid gland produces Thyroxin (T4) and the more metabolically active hormone Triiodotyronine (T3) The nutrients required to produce T4 and T3 are:

L Tyrosine works with iodine to activate T3 and T4. It attaches itself to iodine atoms to form thyroxin.
Iodine. Iodine contributes to normal thyroid function and the normal production of thyroid hormones. It is found in its natural form in bladderwrack.
Selenium, Zinc and Copper are cofactors for the enzyme that converts T4 to T3.
Selenium also contributes to normal thyroid function. It helps to produce 2 enzymes, Glutathione peroxidase and iodotyronine deiodinase, which controls iodine molecule removal T4 to T3, T3- T2 and T2-T1.
Zinc is required for conversion of Tyrosine to T3.
Copper is important in the metabolism of tyrosine- this is added as people are likely to need this supplement for several months to support the thyroid and if zinc is taken for more than a few weeks it can deplete the body of copper.
Manganese is required to transport thyroxin to the cell.

Recommended dose: 1 capsule per day with food.

Caution: Tyrosine should not be taken by anyone on antidepressant MAO inhibitor medication.
